The Peruvian Torch cactus, scientifically known as Trichocereus peruvianus (or Echinopsis peruviana), is another fascinating member of the cactus family with historical and cultural significance. This species, like the San Pedro cactus, is relatively easy to grow and requires little water, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners.
The Peruvian Torch cactus is known for its psychoactive properties, mainly due to the presence of mescaline, a psychedelic alkaloid. Mescaline can produce strong hallucinogenic effects and plays an important role in several traditional spiritual and medicinal practices.
Instructions
Use a grow box. Fill plastic containers (5 cm) with sterilized soil, place the seeds on the soil and press gently. Place the trays in a layer of boiled water and wait for the soil to become moist on the surface. Remove the jars and cover them with plastic wrap. Optimal temperature at this stage is between 18°C and 23°C. After a few days to weeks, green baby cacti will emerge. After about 4 weeks, you can start hardening off. Pierce 2 holes in the foil and then every other day. You can remove the plastic if there is as much atmosphere under the foil as outside it. Water with boiled water or rainwater. Don’t let them dry out, but don’t overwater either. After a year you can repot them if necessary, be very careful with the pen root. If the cacti turn yellow they need more light, if they turn red they need less water.
Storage advice
Store this product in a cool and dark place such as a kitchen cabinet and out of the reach of children.
