The use of Absinth Absinthium (Absinthalm) goes back thousands of years. Ancient Egypt (civilization) 3300 B.C. used these herbs to combat the ailment “Uka,” which remains a mystery to this day. The Bible also mentions Wormwood. This herb has a history of use and not only by consuming. For example, wormwood would also be used in the pre-Christian era in the burning of corpses. Absinthium Absinthium was placed around and on the funeral pyre. The reason why this was done may have had to do with the hallucinatory effects of Absinthium. Because of these effects, this could be interpreted as coming in contact with the afterlife.
